You Don’t Need a Diagnosis to Deserve Support: Navigating the Life’s Challenges

I hear it often in my Wilston practice: “I feel guilty even being here. I mean, I have a good job, a great family... I’m not depressed or anything, I’m just… struggling.”

There is a common myth that you need a clinical label, a formal diagnosis like Major Depressive Disorder or Generalised Anxiety Disorder, to earn a seat on a counsellor’s couch. We’ve been conditioned to believe that unless we are broken, we should just push through.

But the truth is, you don’t need a diagnosis to deserve support. You just need to be human.

The Problems of Living

Most of what we experience as mental distress isn't a malfunction of the brain; it’s a natural response to life events. Life in inner Brisbane is fast-paced. Between work hustle, the pressure of modern parenting, and the complexities of long-term relationships, it is perfectly normal for your internal resources to run dry.

I specialise in these problems of living – the heavy, messy, non-clinical parts of being an adult that don't always fit into a neat medical box:

  • Grief and Loss: Not just the loss of a loved one, but the invisible losses. The end of a career, a change in health, or the grief of a life path you didn’t get to take.

  • Relationship Friction: That feeling of becoming roommates with your partner. You aren’t in a toxic war, but communication has eroded, and you’ve forgotten how to connect meaningfully.

  • High-Functioning Stress: You’re hitting your KPIs and the school lunches are packed, but internally, you’re vibrating with a tension you can’t quite name.

  • Life Transitions: Whether it's the empty nest or a mid-life career pivot, change is exhausting, even when it’s positive.

I Understand Your Struggle

You aren't a patient to be fixed or a set of symptoms to be managed. You are a person navigating a particularly demanding chapter of life.

My approach isn't about clinical coldness or ticking boxes on a diagnostic form. It’s about validation and strategy. It’s about having a professional, objective person in your corner who understands that holding it all together is, in itself, an exhausting full-time job.

Why Counselling is a perfect fit for Life Problems

  • No Referral Required: You don't need a GP to validate your struggle with a Mental Health Care Plan. You can simply decide you've had enough of feeling this way.

  • A Peer-Level Connection: Our sessions feel like a focused, expert conversation, not a clinical examination.

  • Sustainability: My mid-range pricing means you can access support when you need it, for as long as you need it, without the financial burden of high-end clinical fees.

You are allowed to take up space.

If you feel like you are languishing – not quite in crisis, but certainly not thriving – that is reason enough to reach out. You don't need to wait for a breakdown to justify a breakthrough. If you’re ready to offload the mental weight, I’m currently accepting new clients at my Wilston practice for both individual and couples sessions. Let’s get you back to feeling like yourself.
